Instead of trying to make the entire sunglass lens into a prescription, we put the prescription lenses on the nose piece so that they sit directly behind the sunglass lens. This allows the lenses to be thinner and lighter which in turn allows us to work with much higher prescriptions than usual. But it gets better. Since the lenses are attached to the nose piece, the Rx insert is interchangeable between sunglasses that are the same model.
